Established in 2014, the High Plains Chapter of The Wine and Food Foundation is a membership-based, non-profit organization that hosts events showcasing local Wines and raises money for educational opportunities.

Growing every year, the 230-member local chapter hosts wine and food events, creates opportunities for educational advancement, and holds exclusive membership events funding charitable donations and scholarships.

In 2016, the High Plains Chapter raised $4,000 in scholarships that were given to two Texas Tech students majoring in restaurant, hotel, and institutional management and viticulture and enology.

“The whole purpose is to promote local food and wines, the people that grow them, along with scholarships and raising funds for a non-profit organization,” said Matt Williams, director on the board for The Wine and Food Foundation High Plains Chapter.

The Cork and Pork and The Kitchen Crawl are two major events the High Plains Chapter hosts each year.

The Cork and Pork will be held at McPherson Cellars on March 30 benefitting Paul’s Project-Grace Campus, and the scholarships winners will be presented their checks. Tickets will be $40 for members and $45 for non-members.

The Kitchen Crawl, held later this year, takes place in four different houses in Lubbock, Texas. Many of the homes chosen for event have been featured in the Parade of Homes. Buses shuttle attendees to the houses where the board of directors greet guests and promote local food and wines by having local chefs prepare hors d’oeuvres and serve Texas wines.

“Wine brings out good conversation and good people,” said David Deason, associate managing director for Texas Tech’s Hospitality Services and president of the High Plains Chapter.

Wine After Work is another event the High Plains Chapter holds on the first Tuesday of every month. This event takes place at various locations in Lubbock allowing members to network, taste Texas wines and local food.
